Smart meters are rolling out all over the country now with many utility companies adopting a ‘no-opt-out’ approach to their installation.  Some people claim to have had a smart meter installed at their home without even being notified.

Have you checked your meter box recently?  If not, go and check it now or check when you get home because despite utilities claiming smart meters are safe, they can actually have severe health implications, especially if located near a bedroom. Even our own ARPANSA website states “smart meters are safe but if you feel you may be affected then move your bed away from the wall by at least one meter”. The World Health Organisation recommends that the “safe” amount of EMR is 612mV/m2 and smart meters can throw out at least three times that amount.

Sadly, as EMF sensitivity is just not a well known or accepted medical aliment (yet) and therefore many people are being misdiagnosed and prescribed anti-depressants or other medications which then have their own set of potential side effects. There aren’t many GP’s who will ask “where is your bed in relation to your smart meter?”

Potential effects of smart meters

Perhaps you have recently had a smart meter installed.  Have you noticed any of these symptoms?

What are your options?

So, what can you do if you do have a smart meter installed at your home?  Well, some utilities will allow you to opt-out if you pay for the meter to be converted back and subsequently pay from that point on to have your meter manually read each quarter.  This is a costly option and not available in every instance.

Our recommendation is to install a Smartblock Smart Meter Shield.

What is a Smartblock Smart Meter Shield?

The Smartblock Smart Meter Shield is a Faraday Cage that fits neatly over all sized smart meters that have been supplied in Australia and provides protection from the high levels of electromagnetic radiation (EMR) emitted by smart meters.

When Smartblock is placed over the smart meter the levels of EMR drop by up to 99%. This level is still enough to transmit your real time power usage to the grid.

What is a Faraday Cage?

A Faraday cage is named after its inventor, the English scientist Michael Faraday. It is basically a metallic enclosure that prevents the entry or escape of an electromagnetic field.
